Many species are native however, others have been brought in from Europe and Western Asia. They are evergreen trees with opposite, flattened, scale-like leaves. "Pine" cones are small, and 1inch long. Height varies with variety but ranges from 35-70 feet tall. In California, cypress are commonly grown in sea-side gardens, as they are tolerent of sea spray.
