Genus Details

Callistemon citrinus derives its name from the greek Calos, meaning beautiful, and stemon, meaning stamen (the pollen producing portion of the plant). This species belongs to the myrtle family, which is composed of trees and shrubs. They are known for simple, opposite leaves which bear oil glads and are strongly scented. Stamens are usually numerous, sticking out quite a distance from the rest of the plant, resembling a bottle brush. This genus is highly cultivated around sun-saturated areas in gardens and is adaptable to a wide range of soils.
